Breaking away from the norm of bland football camps or repetitive offseason training routines, Football Entangled is bringing footballers to Montenegro this summer for a retreat in a village setting near Lake Skadar. Organized by Taylor Davidson, the week-long experience combines daily athletic sessions with barefoot football, river training, and time spent away from the environments most players spend their seasons in.
The retreat will take place at Montenegro Village in Sotonići, a rural area known for its forests and mountain rivers that offers a slower pace compared to Montenegro’s tourist-heavy coastal destinations. Players will stay on-site throughout the week while following a schedule built around football training, movement work, recovery sessions, and outdoor activities.
Davidson, who has spent more than 15 years involved in football and player development, created Football Entangled after dealing with long-term injuries during his own playing journey. That experience pushed him deeper into studying athletic performance, rehabilitation, and movement systems, eventually shaping the training approach he now uses with players internationally.
Many of those ideas will be central to the Montenegro retreat. Daily sessions are expected to include fascial integration training, mobility work, hill sprints, barefoot football exercises, lymphatic work, and water-based explosive training. Players will also have access to football pitches for small-sided games and technical sessions throughout the week.
Instead of operating out of a luxury resort or traditional sports complex, the retreat is based in a working village surrounded by forests and mountain rivers. Organizers describe the experience as intentionally simple and nature-focused, with an emphasis on outdoor living, recovery, and stepping away from the usual offseason environment.
The property includes an on-site training area surrounded by trees, nearby rivers for swimming and recovery work, and meals prepared by local Montenegrin families. Fresh meat, eggs, honey, goat milk, and regional dishes are all part of the experience, with food served directly on-site throughout the retreat.
Outside the structured sessions, players will spend time swimming in nearby rivers and exploring the surrounding area near Lake Skadar. One evening will also include a group visit to the Tivat waterfront for dining and social activities.
Montenegro itself has become an increasingly popular destination for travelers looking for quieter alternatives to larger Mediterranean hotspots. Football Entangled leans into that setting heavily, combining the natural environment around Lake Skadar with football-focused training and recovery work during the offseason.
Only 20 total spots are available for the June retreat, with organizers saying that half the spaces have already been booked through existing clients. The main portion of the event runs from June 1-8, while an extended VIP option from June 8-15 offers additional training time and more individualized attention.
Accommodation, transportation to and from the airport, and meals are included as part of the program. Players can fly into either Podgorica or Tivat, though organizers recommend Podgorica due to its closer proximity to the village location.
With a smaller group size and a schedule centered around football preparation and recovery, the Montenegro retreat is being positioned as a more hands-on offseason experience for players looking to reset before next season begins.
